The Dragon (龍, 竜/辰 – boy)

This set of data below is the largest out of the 7 sets that I’ve put up and there is quite a lot to get through this.

Coming from this set of data, it seems that the Ryūnosuke group is the only one out of the 12 groups to include forms that either fall down, then rise back up or fall down in 2 years (highlighted in orange). Meanwhile, the Ryūsei group is the one out of the 12 not showing a ‘rise up, fall below’ pattern in a majority of forms. Instead, the majority of forms rise up and fall down above where they were 2 years earlier (highlighted in aquamarine).

辰輝 8 14 4 0.003% 0.009% 0.002% 216.114% -78.320%
辰之介 Shin’nosuke or Tatsunosuke 5 15 6 0.002% 0.010% 0.003% 441.910% -69.648%

辰之輔 3 6 2 .0011% 0.004% 0.001% 261.273% -74.707%

The only group out of the 3 that doesn’t have the ‘rise up, fall below’ pattern in a majority of forms is the Shin’nosuke/Tatsunosuke group.

The next year of the Dragon was 2012. According to Tamahiyo:

  • Ryūnosuke (龍之介) rose from 61st in 2011 to 5th in 2012 but then fell to 67th in 2013
  • Ryūsei (龍生) rose from 253rd in 2011 to 27th in 2012 but then fell out of the top 100 in 2013
  • Ryū (龍) rose from 222nd in 2011 to 36th in 2012 but then fell out of the top 100 in 2013
  • Ryūki (龍輝) rose from 653rd in 2011 to 57th in 2012 but then fell out of the top 100 in 2013

In a way, it’s similar to what happened in 2000, though we don’t know where the last 3 names were ranked in 2013. None of the names that contain 竜 or 辰 were in the top 100 that year.

Fingers crossed for 2024. We shall see this same event happening again.
